Evaluating Knowledge Circulation with Global Media Partnerships in Transnational Research Programs

Abstract

The rapid globalization of scientific inquiry has necessitated the development of robust mechanisms for disseminating findings across diverse geographical and socio-political boundaries. Among the most prominent catalysts for this dissemination are global media partnerships embedded within transnational research programs. Despite their increasing prevalence, empirical evaluations of how these partnerships influence the actual circulation of knowledge remain nascent. This paper systematically addresses this gap by assessing knowledge circulation through difference analysis, applying it to observational data derived from multiple transnational research initiatives. By utilizing a quasi-experimental framework, the study isolates the specific impact of structured media partnerships on the reach, uptake, and application of research outputs compared to traditional dissemination pathways. The analysis investigates variations across different academic disciplines, geographical regions, and media platforms to provide a granular understanding of knowledge flow dynamics. Findings indicate a substantial and statistically significant augmentation in both academic citations and public policy integration when research programs are coupled with targeted global media partnerships. Furthermore, the difference analysis reveals that the trajectory of knowledge circulation shifts from a linear diffusion model to a multidirectional network model, thereby accelerating the time-to-impact metric across stakeholder groups. This research contributes theoretically to the sociology of scientific knowledge and offers practical guidelines for research consortia aiming to optimize their global communication strategies.
